Note: The Journal of Southeast Asian Education is an official SEAMEO publication produced twice a year. The main purpose of this international journal is to provide information and analysis to assist in policymaking and planning in the countries in the region. It promotes the interchange of ideas on educational issues and comparative studies, both within the countries of the region and other parts of the world. Each article in the journal was written to enable readers from outside each country to obtain an overview of how education is carried out within its borders. The theme of this first issue in 2018 is "Southeast Asian MOOCs." As such, it features official contributions from the Ministries of Education of various SEAMEO Member Countries, namely, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar, and the Philippines, along with the SEAMEO Secretariat and SEAMOLEC to MOOC development and implementation. The various articles in the journal present MOOCs and OERs in Singapore, national MOOC and OER trends related to educational development in Thailand, the current status of distance education in Myanmar, Philippines MOOCs as a lifelong learning strategy in the context of a developing country, disseminating ODL through MOOCs in Southeast Asia, and implementing the SEAMEO Virtual Programmes. The inaugural issue of the Journal of Southeast Asia Education was launched by the SEAMEO Secretariat in July 2000.
